Roasters of Royal Drummer Gourmet Coffees

Action Coffee/ Royal Drummer

About Us:

Royal Drummer Gourmet Coffees were first roasted in Kansas City in 1985. The name Royal Drummer comes from one of the most notorious of the coffeehouses that spread rapidly through Paris in the early 1700's. While other coffeehouses appealed to artists and intellectuals, the "Royal Drummer" was known for its vices and excesses. King Louis XV and Marie Antoinette were frequent if not constant visitors, the latter when a particularly wild party was in progress.

We purchase our green coffee from several different importers who bring in large quantities of high quality coffees from around the world. All of the coffees are cupped and only the finest are purchased and sold as Royal Drummer Gourmet Coffees. Buying from large distributors such as these allows us to purchase as little as one bag of a less popular but important coffee for our inventory.

We believe that freshness is very important in an excellent gourmet coffee, and use both a large batch and small batch roaster to roast our coffees. By using this system we can assure you that you are getting the freshest coffee possible.

About Our Coffee:

  • We have been roasting since 1985
  • We purchase only the finest beans (not necessarily the fanciest name) from three importers. Each coffee is cupped before being selected to represent Royal Drummer Gourmet Coffees.
  • Over 30 different blends, dark roasts and origin coffees to choose from, plus over 25 different flavored coffees.
  • Coffees are shipped in sealed, flavor preserving bags, whole bean or ground.
  • All coffees and prices are quoted for one full pound, not 12 ounces.

The Roasting Process:

Bud weighs out green coffee to be used in a blend. Weighing Green Coffee Green coffee is loaded into the bucket elevator to a holding tank above the roaster. Opening a gate valve then allows the green coffee to fall into the roasting chamber. Loading coffee into the roaster
As the coffee roasts, it is tested for bean development and color. Testing the roasting process Fresh roasted coffee dumps from the roasting chamber to the cooling cylinder. Fresh Roasted Coffee
